Name Origination:
The peak was first named Mount Rosalie by Albert Bierstadt in honor of his wife. During a celebration at Greeley, CO in 1870, the summit was unofficially renamed Mount Evans in honor of John Evans, the second territorial governor of Colorado. The Crest House ruins located on the summit was the highest business structure in the United States until it was destroyed by fire in 1979.
