Description

Named in honor of George Montague Wheeler, a U.S. Army officer and surveyor. Wheeler was a key figure in the exploration and mapping of the American West during the late 19th century. As leader of the Wheeler Survey, he aimed to create detailed maps of the territories west of the 100th meridian.
